![]() Divine DayDivine Day first came together as a group in January 2007. At that point, they were just four youthful individuals who all shared the same passion for writing and playing music. In the summer of 2007, they did not book any shows, and with scheduling conflicts, were rarely able to get together to rehearse. David Woody worked long hours, for little pay, and Alex Lefler worked short shifts for big money. Nevertheless, the two got together very frequently to write music. They began to create some substantial material and felt the need to record some of it. Sam Taylor’s heart of interest and excitement lies in the arena of recording. So naturally, he owned some recording equipment and eagerly wanted to record the new music. Alex’s younger brother Andrew, who at the time was 15, jumped on board to play bass in the group and quickly honed his skills far beyond his one year of experience. Together, the four of them recorded and produced a few tracks. But after further scrutinizing, they decided to take it back to square one in order to improve upon their material. Near the end of summer, Divine Day officially submitted to be considered for the Fall Brawl Battle of The Bands hosted by The Underground. Cash and prizes for the winner of this event amounted to $50,000. They desperately needed to have a demo CD to give out during the competition. However, since both Andrew and Sam were still in high school working part-time jobs, finding time to record was very difficult. For the first two shows of the competition, they received 1st place, good judges votes, and positive feedback. During Christmas break, they saw their opportunity for more songwriting and quickly produced a four-song demo just in time for the next round of the competition. Divine Day received first placed in every single remaining round of the competition. They played multiple shows in between the rounds and still found time to write. The opportunity to play with national bands, like Disciple, resulted from their quality performances at the Underground. In the Final round, Divine Day took home 1st place and the $50,000 in cash and prizes. On top of this, they also received the most votes in the history of the battle. This competition will be the starter fuel for months, and perhaps years, to come. The beginning for Divine Day has just emerged. Currently, Divine Day is working vigorously to get their new EP album out before the summer. The song above, Rewind, is a sample of what the album will sound like. And as always, all of Divine Day's music is self-recorded and produced. Enjoy! Instrumentation: |
